The state of this sword does leave to be desired, but it is, nevertheless, of superior quality.
The way it feels in the hand, the shimmering quality of the mother of pearl grip and that of the work on the shell all attest to this.
It is very similar to sword 731 on page 389 of Jean Lhoste's book 'Les epees portees en France des origines a nos jours'
