This sword belonged to Raymond Herremans, who was Belgian ambassador to Japan from September 1956 to July 1959. However, this sword must have been received or bought from a predecessor, as it is of more ancient make and the scabbard is engraved with someone else's monogram (P.R.). It seems that the blade was replaced, yet the new blade is coherent in style.
I was a able to buy a lot containing not only this sword, but also a few papers belonging to Ambassador Herremans. This included his uniform's hat and sash, which I include here for your viewing pleasure.
